This blog is all about our attempt to become more self sufficient near the city – or, as we call it, City Sufficiency.

In December 2015, we bought a house. It’s an average-sized house, on an average-sized section, in a suburb near Wellington, New Zealand. Now we’re learning about gardening, backyard chicken keeping, and how to maintain and improve our home.

This blog reflects our real experience, so you can follow the successes and challenges of this journey with us. We welcome advice, and you might even learn something (from us or other readers) along the way!

I post about once a week, covering an eclectic mix of updates on the garden, our animals (chickens, cats, dogs, rats and rabbits), my favourite recipes, new skills we’re trying to master, and anything else that’s on my mind.

As well as the blog, you can find, friend or follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
