Travel and inspiration

It’s been a quiet couple of weeks on this blog, but an interesting time for us.

We spent a few days in Melbourne – our first overseas trip together, and the first time either of us have had a holiday outside New Zealand for many years. While we both have family and friends around the city, we needed a total break away – and got it.

However, we did see lots of inspiring things – including visiting Ikea. (Why don’t we have Ikea in New Zealand already?) The showrooms there kind of blew our minds, and the array of (mostly kitchen) items we bought were a contribution to the extra suitcase we returned with.

This little piggy went to heaven – Edible Backyard

Yesterday we also went to an open day at Kath Irvine’s incredible Edible Backyard in Levin. As well as being a lovely host and answering many questions, Kath spoke about planning crops for winter, and gave quite a few helpful organic-friendly tips on pest and disease control.

Between Ikea’s ideas and Kath’s garden guidance, we now have buckets of inspiration for both inside and out.

Now we need to keep applying that inspiration in practice.
